Backup/deleted text question

I accidentally deleted text messages from one person from my iPhone 6 Plus. They still show on my iPad and iMac but I am afraid when an automatic backup happens, it will back up the iPhone and delete them from the other two devices. Will that happen? I use iCloud if that makes any difference.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 10

Hi melissahh625,

I understand that you've got some questions about your deleted messages across your different devices. I know that it's important to have a handle on your data, so I'm happy to help.

When you receive messages, they are stored on the individual devices. This means that if you delete them from one device they will not be removed from the other. This is the case even if any of your devices backup to iCloud as those backups are specific to the devices as well.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

melissahh625,

Thanks for the followup and additional questions. We're happy to help ensure you understand what you need to know about the data on your iPhone.

While you can backup your iPhone to your computer, and it is recommended to do so, the data in any backups you create won't be viewable except for when restored to a device. You can read more about backups and what's included here:

Cheers!
